Crown Cryogenic Roughing Out Gouges
There has been a lot of buzz recently about cryo treated woodturning tools. Steel that is cryogenically treated is exposed to nitrogen gas at temperatures of 300 degrees below zero for a specific period of time. This changes the structure of the metal, increasing its wear resistance. In practical terms this means wear resistance and therefore the retention of a good cutting edge, is increased by at least 2 to 3 times longer than would be the case, even for M2 high-speed steel tools.
The combined effect of Cryogenic processing is to produce a refined crystal structure in your hand tool that will give a lifetime's service by producing a blade that will retain its edge longer and give a superior 'feel' in use. These quality roughing out gouges from Crown are well balanced with good profiles and offer excellent value and you can go longer between sharpenings.
