Crown Cryogenic Roughing Out Gouges

Crown Cryogenic Roughing Out Gouges

There has been a lot of buzz recently about cryo treated woodturning tools. Steel that is cryogenically treated is exposed to nitrogen gas at temperatures of 300 degrees below zero for a specific period of time. This changes the structure of the metal, increasing its wear resistance. In practical terms this means wear resistance and therefore the retention of a good cutting edge, is increased by at least 2 to 3 times longer than would be the case, even for M2 high-speed steel tools.
The combined effect of Cryogenic processing is to produce a refined crystal structure in your hand tool that will give a lifetime's service by producing a blade that will retain its edge longer and give a superior 'feel' in use. These quality roughing out gouges from Crown are well balanced with good profiles and offer excellent value and you can go longer between sharpenings.

About Us Page

About Us Page

Since the early 1900's we stood fairs and markets accross the UK, selling hand tools and cutlery all made in Sheffield. Back then, fairs and markets were far and few. People saved up their money over a year to spend on the annual fair.

We then went into wholesaling our hand tools in the 1950's and in the 70's starting importing from all over the world. In 1997 we took the name TOOLMAN and applied it to quality tools that we thought was good enough to bear the name and we registered it as a trademark in 2008..

TOOLMAN is based in Sheffield, England. We are still a family business, bringing you good quality TOOLMAN products that are mostly manufactured in and around Sheffield England. Other tools are from other quality tool making countries (USA, Canada, Germany etc.). Everything is made by skilled craftsmen with many years of experience under their belts. They have produced some of the finest woodworking tools, made in their own countries tradition.

As we are still primarily still a wholesale company, we do not sell 'over the counter' and are strictly mail order only.
