Our traditionally made hot forged gouge is ground and finished by hand. The ideal tool for preliminary work to produce a round shape from square edge spindle stock. Made from M2 High Speed Steel (Rockwell 62/64) and fitted with an ergonomically designed stained Rosewood handle and heavy duty Brass ferrule combining to give excellent balance and control. Recommended for the initial turning of uneven or square stock to round. The shape of the Roughing Out Gouge enables the tool to cut safely with the wings (the name given to the tips of the sidewalls) well back from the workpiece.
