LOW ANGLE: There are many things that separate this block plane from others. The first is that it has a 1/8" thick by 1-5/8" wide blade made from A2 tool steel, an alloy that takes a keener edge, is more resistant to chipping and dulls less easily than any of the other plane blades. As it is 50% thicker than most commercial plane blades, it is also more rigid. The second outstanding feature of the plane is the combined feed screw and lateral adjust. It is both more sensitive and more accurate than any other adjustment mechanism.This plane also overcomes one of the drawbacks of other block planes in having higher side wings (ideal for shooting) with multiple finger grips in each side. The combination of accuracy of adjustment and fine machining makes it a pleasure to use. With a 12° bed angle and 25° bevel angle, the plane excels at working end grain. It has the adjustable mouthpiece and compact size of other low-angle block planes. With the 6" long by 2" wide body made from ductile iron, the plane can take hard knocks without cracking. All of the machining is done to a high level of accuracy in our own factory. The accurately milled sides and sole are now also surface ground to a higher degree of finish. BLOCK PLANE: We now offer a standard block plane in the Veritas line, based on the same design as our low-angle block plane (#05P22.01). Preferred for general-purpose work, the 20° bed angle plus the 25° bevel angle on the bevel-up blade result in an effective cutting angle of 45°, the same as found in most bench planes. A low-profile lever cap results in a plane that fits the hand well, at only 1/8" higher than its low-angle sibling. Mechanically, it shares the same features: a combined blade advance and lateral adjust, blade guide screws, an adjustable nosepiece, a 6" x 2" footprint, and a 1/8"thick by 1-5/8" wide A2 tool steel blade.

The #4 smooth plane is the most commonly used bench plane because of its versatility. It is the perfect size for general smoothing, finish work, trimming parts and other odd jobs at the bench. It has the mass required to cut smoothly but is also light enough (4 lb 6 oz) to avoid fatigue in use. The sole is 9-1/2" long, and the blade is 2" wide, a full 1/8" thick and made of your choice of A2 or O1 tool steel. Like all the Veritas bench planes, the #4 smooth plane incorporates a unique frog that extends all the way to the sole of the plane to eliminate blade chatter and to allow the user to quickly adjust the mouth as required. It can be closed to a narrow slit for fine shavings with minimum tear-out, or opened or heavier cuts. The Veritas #4-1/2 smoothing plane represents the evolution of a traditional tool, addressing shortcomings such as blade chatter and throat adjustment, while making use of modern materials for the castings and blade. It incorporates a completely new concept in bench planes, a frog that extends all the way to the sole of the plane. This effective design reduces blade chatter by providing complete blade support and allows a user to quickly adjust the mouth as required. It can be closed to a narrow slit for fine shavings, or opened for heavier cuts. All of this is done without having to remove the lever cap or anything else from the plane; simply loosen a pair of screws and dial the desired opening with a thumbwheel. The carefully machined fit between frog and sole makes the process fast and accurate. The 2-7/8" x 10" ductile cast iron body is fully stress relieved, machined, and surface ground on both the wings and sole for accuracy. The extra-large side wings make for very stable shooting. The 2-3/8" wide blade is a full 1/8" thick and made of your choice of A2 or O1 tool steel. The thick blade, combined with the full-depth frog, virtually eliminates chatter under all conditions. Both the hardwood front knob and tote are generous in size for control and a comfortable grip. The combined feed and lateral adjust lever make blade setting easy and accurate. At just over 5 lb, this has the mass needed for an effective smoother.

The #5-1/4 was often referred to as a junior jack. At 12" long, it fell between the #4 smooth plane at 10" long and the #5 jack at 14" long. Our #5-1/4W varies from the traditional #5-1/4 in various ways, but the two most significant dimensional differences are that ours has a 2" wide blade (rather than 1-3/4" and the mouth is 4-3/8" back of the nose compared with 3-1/2" for the original. This extra length of sole in front of the blade makes it much easier to cut accurately because the extra-long nose makes it easier to maintain the sole flush to the material at the start of a cut. In fact, the combination of the mouth location and the very sensitive feed adjustment lets this plane serve as a jointer for most cabinet work, just as a #5 is used as a jointer. The #5-1/4W is an ideal complement to the #4-1/2 for bench work. Like the #4-1/2, it is made from ductile cast iron and has the same adjustable frog with a combined feed and lateral adjust mechanism that is sturdy, yet sensitive and accurate. The easily adjusted frog is machined to fit snugly in the plane body and, combined with the 1/8" thick blade, eliminates virtually all blade chatter. Because the frog extends right through to the sole, adjusting the frog to narrow the mouth does not reduce blade support as it does in standard planes of this style. As with the low-angle block plane and the #4-1/2, all surfaces are accurately ground and the sides are square to the sole. This is a significant new style of plane.

The #6 fore plane is ideal for smoothing and flattening large surfaces, such as panels, tabletops and workbench tops. The long sole ensures accurate results, as it will not follow the bumps and valley that a shorter plane would. This is one of our largest bench planes, with a sole 18" long and blade 2-3/8" wide. Its weight is just under 6-3/4 lb. The Veritas low-angle jack plane is an exceptionally versatile plane. It excels at end-grain work, is great for shooting, and also works well for smoothing. With the optional 50° high-angle blade, it is also the answer for working difficult grain, making it a well-rounded workhorse. Veritas have designated it as a 62-1/2 because of its generous size, heavier weight, low center of gravity and radically set-back mouth. The plane is 15" long and weighs in at just under 6 lb. You will appreciate the way this plane, with a toe that is one third the length of the sole, registers to the workpiece, and the authority it provides when planing. This is a bevel-up plane, with a 12° bed angle similar to a low-angle block plane. The supplied 25°, 2-1/4" wide blade is 3/16" (0.187mm) thick and made of your choice of A2 or O1 tool steel hardened to Rc60-62. The body is fully stress-relieved, ductile cast iron. It is accurately machined so that the sole is flat and the sides are square to the sole. The sheer mass of the plane, combined with the large side wings, makes it both more stable and more effective than its predecessors. The specially shaped lever cap, together with the machined thumb recess on either side of the body, provides both comfort and excellent control when shooting. The plane's adjustable mouth can be closed to a narrow slit for fine shavings with minimum tear-out or opened for heavier cuts. All of this can be done quickly and accurately with the front locking knob and the unique mouth adjustment screw. The large wooden front knob and rear handle provide a comfortable grip. The adjustment mechanism, with its combined feed and lateral adjustment knob, makes blade setting easy and accurate. The set screws on either side of the blade prevent it from shifting in use, but allow full lateral adjustment. The optional high-angle blade enables this plane to excel at smoothing varying-grain woods. The blade has been ground with a 38° bevel, yielding an effective cutting angle of 50°, a step up from the standard 45° bench plane. This is the ideal starting point for least push resistance when working difficult wood. Higher cutting angles require greater force to push the plane, but the extra weight compensates. A recent addition to the family of low-angle bench planes is the state-of-the-art pure smoothing plane. It is the plane to use for the final finish on surfaces, especially woods of difficult grain patterns. It also complements our low-angle jack plane. We have combined the generous width and weight of a dedicated smoother with the versatile inner workings of a low-angle bevel-up plane. The 12° bed angle, coupled with the 38° blade bevel, yields an effective cutting angle of 50°, what is commonly known as a York pitch. This is an ideal starting angle for minimizing tear-out when working difficult wood. It is easy to create a higher micro-bevel angle for very difficult grains. The ductile cast iron body is fully stress-relieved, and has a 12° bed angle similar to a low-angle block plane. Accurately machined, the sole is flat. The adjustable mouth can be closed to a narrow slit for fine shavings with minimum tear-out or opened for heavier cuts. A stop-screw in the throat adjusts to whatever mouth opening you find ideal for chip breaking and chip clearance. This lets you open the mouth fully for blade removal (for honing) and replacement, yet quickly restores your exact mouth setting. The large wooden front knob and rear handle provide both comfort and excellent control. The adjustment mechanism, with its combined feed and lateral adjustment knob, makes blade setting easy and accurate. Set screws prevent the blade from shifting, but allow full lateral adjustment. It weighs in at just under 5 lb, with an exceptionally low center of gravity. We have dubbed this plane a 164-1/2 H. It is an excellent choice for even the most demanding reversing grains, where even higher bevel angles (for creating Type II chips) are required to eliminate tear-out. The coffin-shaped body has a sole length of 10" and a width of 3-1/8" Includes a 38° blade, 2-1/4" wide, 3/16"(0.187mm) thick, made of your choice of A2 or O1 tool steel hardened to Rc60-62. The Veritas low-angle jointer is the latest and largest member of our bevel-up bench plane family. At 22" x 2-7/8" and weighing 7-1/2 lb, it is the answer for jointing edges and flattening large panels. The bevel-up blade configuration results in a plane that is versatile and straightforward to use. The 12° bed angle, coupled with the 25° blade bevel, creates an effective cutting angle of 37°. Simply increasing the blade bevel results in higher cutting angles for improved performance in more difficult-grained woods. A 25° blade is supplied with each plane but it also accepts 38° and 50° blade bevels. The 2-1/4" wide blade is 3/16" (0.187mm) thick and made of your choice of A2 or O1 tool steel hardened to Rc60-62. An adjustable throat plate allows a wide range of mouth adjustment. Our unique stop-screw retains mouth settings while preventing blade damage when removing and replacing blades. B. Veritas Bevel-Up Jointer Fence The Veritas low-angle jointer fence enables you to shoot consistent and accurate square or bevelled edges with your Veritas bevel-up jointer. The 11" long anodized aluminum fence can be attached to either side of the plane with the brass thumbscrews provided; a set screw can be adjusted to square the fence to the sole. As supplied, the 2" tall guiding face can be used to plane edges perfectly square to the face of your workpiece. It can also be used to shoot angles less than 90° when a bevelled wooden guide is attached to the inside face of the fence.

A low-angle smooth plane has three key uses. It is used to smooth surfaces, preferably taking a diagonal cut, partly across and partly along the grain. With its generous side wings, it is ideal for shooting miters. Finally, it is excellent for end-grain work. The low cutting angle of 37° minimizes fiber tearing. With a bed angle of 12°, this is a bevel-up plane, like a low-angle block. It features an adjustable mouth with a unique stop-screw, a combined feed and lateral adjustment knob for blade setting, and a generous bubinga front knob and rear handle. The ductile cast iron body is 10"; X 2-1/2". Overall weight is just over 3-1/2 lb. Includes a 25° bevel blade, 2" wide by 1/8" thick. For working difficult grain, additional blades are available: 38° and 50° bevel blades in A2 steel, and a toothed A2 blade. The toothed blade is ideal for working with difficult grain, especially knots. The small, square teeth leave a textured surface that can be smoothed with a finely set plane or a scraper.

The Veritas scraping plane is the ideal tool for final smoothing — especially when you have to deal with highly figured wood or reversing grain. With a well-sharpened blade and light cuts you can achieve excellent results on any wood. Tear-out is virtually eliminated with the cutting action of the included scraping blade. The generous wooden front knob and rear handle make it comfortable to use for extended periods and the large sole ensures an accurately flattened surface. The adjustable frog enables blade angles from 0° to 25°, providing fine control of the cutting action. A feature unique to our scraping plane is an integral thumbscrew that bows the blade to eliminate ridges in the work surface caused by blade corners. The plane comes with a 0.055" high-carbon steel blade suited to this technique, and an optional 1/8" (0.125mm) thick blade of A2 tool steel is available for those who prefer uncambered blades. Also available is a 1/8"; (0.125mm) thick A2 tool steel toothed blade with V-shaped teeth at 25 teeth per inch. The toothed blade will prepare a surface for veneering by lightly grooving it to increase surface area for better glue adhesion. It is also used to pre-condition areas of very difficult grain before the regular scraping blade is used. All blade styles are 2-7/8" wide, hardened to Rc48-51, and come with the cutting edges ground at 45°. The scrub plane is the tool of choice for major stock removal, the first step when flattening rough stock by hand. Much like a low-angle smooth plane, a scrub is not usually used parallel to the grain, but at an angle of 30° or more. The blade edge is ground with a 3" radius, so that it takes an aggressive cut. This is the tool you use to get stock into a condition where you then can use a smooth plane. The 3" radius of the 1-1/2" wide by 3/16"; thick blade gives a distinctive, hand-worked texture to the workpiece. It is sometimes used by timber framers to replicate gouge marks. This is a single-iron tool, meaning there is no cap iron or chip breaker. Set screws along the side prevent the blade from shifting sideways when knots are encountered. Available with a high-carbon steel blade. The Veritas scrub plane measures 11-1/4" long overall and weighs 3 lb. The ductile cast iron body is accurately machined and ground so that the sole is flat. The Veritas router plane is the Stanley #71 reborn with radical improvements. An invaluable tool for work on stopped or through dadoes and grooves, or for any work that requires an area cut to a precise depth. The blade depth is regulated by a fine screw feed that travels 1/32" per turn for precise adjustment, with the resulting depth of cut controlled by a positive locking depth stop. Unique to the Veritas router plane is a spring-loaded blade-clamping collar that holds the blade in position when the collar is loosened. It provides tactile feedback, allowing controlled blade adjustment to a depth of 1". The collar can also be set to fully release for quick and easy blade removal, for repositioning in front of the post for general work, behind the post for bullnose applications, or laterally (left or right) for work on hinge gains. Made to the same high standards as other planes, the ductile cast iron body has been accurately machined and ground flat. Weight is 2 lb. The large wooden knobs are positioned to provide both comfort and excellent control. If you would like to customize a pair of handles, a hardware kit that includes two turned brass connectors, two hanger bolts, a hex bolt, and a mandrel for lathe mounting is available separately. The jig that is included for sharpening the 1/2" blades is available separately for those buying our blades for use in Stanley router planes. The optional fence (made of stainless steel and aluminum) can be positioned on either side of the plane and will work on both straight and curved pieces. In addition to using for dadoes or grooves, our router plane is the perfect tool for inlay or intarsia work, or for cleaning out areas for hardware installation, where fine control is critical.

The Veritas bullnose plane is two planes in one, serving as a bullnose or a chisel plane as needed. For use as a chisel plane, just loosen the brass toe-locking knob and remove the upper body frame to work right up to a blind corner. An adjustable set screw in the toe acts as a stop to accurately set the mouth opening. When you switch configurations, it repositions the toe to the exact opening previously set, so you will never accidentally jam the nose against the blade. The plane is 4-3/4" long by 1" wide and weighs just over 1-1/4 lb. Shaped to fit comfortably in the hand, the low, broad lever cap meets your palm, and your forefinger rests in the toe pocket for extra control.

A multi-purpose tool, the Veritas medium shoulder plane can be used on end grain (e.g., trimming tenon shoulders) or for paring cross grain as is often required on tenon cheeks. It is also used for rebate work, planing along the grain. This plane is proportioned for versatility; it measures 7"l ong by 11/16" wide and weighs 2 lb. If you have ever held a traditional shoulder plane, you will appreciate how this plane comes to hand. The unique lever cap with a pivoting knob adjusts to fit your hand and preferred grip. The concave knob rests in the web of your hand, allowing a secure grip without the need of a vise-like pressure.

This specialized rabbet plane is the largest in the Veritas line of shoulder planes. Its size and mass make it perfect for trimming breadboard tenons, adjusting shoulders, or even paring down tenon cheeks. At 8-1/4" long and 1-1/4" wide, and weighing 3-3/4 lb, it brings both authority and precision to larger work. Typical shoulder planes are awkward to handle and control; we have overcome this by shaping a new lever cap that fits properly in the palm, incorporating a bubinga lever cap knob that pivots 180°, and adding a multi-positional front knob that can be mounted on the top or on either side. You can also grip the plane in the recesses cast into the side. This combination of features ensures a solid, comfortable grip for all users in all applications. All blades are 1/8" (0.125mm) thick and are available in A2. For those who want the performance of a superior shoulder plane, this tool is the solution.

The iron plane mimics the bronze version in form and performance, with a few functional improvements. The depth-adjustment mechanism on this model is a large thumb wheel and an independent traveller, resulting in fast and accurate depth setting with no blade skewing. Set screws along the side prevent the blade from shifting when it hits a knot. All other aspects are the same as the bronze plane - a full 1" cut can be made, and the plane is drilled and tapped to allow a wooden wedge to be fixed to the fence for cutting controlled bevels. The Veritas Flush Plane is ideal for flush trimming projections such as glue lines, laminate edges, and plugs. It can also be used for cleaning out inside corners (e.g., hinge gains, tenons, half-laps). It is as handy on the job site as it is in the shop. The purposeful shape provides a comfortable, secure grip and is designed so that the blade can easily be reversed for safe storage and edge protection. At only 8 oz, it can be carried in a pouch or pocket, or loosely stored in a toolbox without fear of damaging the edge. A powerful 1"diameter rare-earth magnet holds the 2" wide blade in place. Rabbet planes used to be widely available, but are now being discontinued by manufacturers. Veritas have developed this specialized plane to convert a chisel into a rabbet plane. The body is made of ductile cast iron and is configured to hold a 1" bevel-edge chisel at a 45° angle, the same pitch as used on bench planes. It becomes a small plane that works equally well as a shoulder plane or rabbet plane and can be used to clean up machine-cut rabbets and tenons. It works like a butt mortise plane for cutting hinge gains. It will also cut 1" dadoes and grooves up to a depth of 3/8". Precisely machined. Overall size is 1-3/8" wide by 5-1/2" long by 2-1/2" high. The clamping screw is solid brass. While it excels as a job-site plane, it is equally handy in the shop.

Now available in black and imprinted with the Veritas logo, these sacks are ideal for plane storage as the silicone-treated knit cotton bag resists moisture. Designed much like a tube sock with a drawstring closure, the sacks keep dust and dirt off the planes and help deter rust development. The ball tail and tall knob can convert the Veritas low-angle block plane into a small low-angle smoothing plane. The Veritas low-angle block planes were machined to accept a ball tail for a firmer grip when smoothing. A tall knob is a natural companion to it. Though the low-angle plane can be used with much force and comfort with only the ball tail, full benefit is obtained when you add the tall knob (replacing the brass front knob that came with your plane). The combination allows you to bear down quite heavily, letting it perform like a low-angle smoothing plane, albeit smaller.

Planing a square edge on a board requires a jointer fence, whether you are using an electric jointer or a hand plane. The Veritas jointer fence allows you to shoot accurate and consistent square or bevelled edges with all iron or steel bench planes.
